On Belmont

Today the missus and I took a walk in our old neighborhood in Sunnyside, on SE Belmont. We make no bones about it, we would move back if circumstances allowed. We’ve always regretted moving from that street.

How to describe Southeast Belmont Street? The first word that comes to mind is ‘eclectic’, but then in Portland it’s practically an unwritten ordinance for citizens to use that word when describing their neighborhood, or favorite eatery, or church, or pet. Calling Belmont…

Grand Life

If you’re not paying much attention while you’re traveling SE Grand Avenue in Portland, you could easily believe you’re on a generic every-town thoroughfare through a run-of-the-mill district of light industry. Admittedly it isn’t as visually interesting as the city’s tree-lined residential streets, or the parti-colored shops of Hawthorne Boulevard, but if you pull yourself out of that commuter on-my-way-elsewhere daze, you’ll see things and places that assure you you’re nowhere else but…

Get Your Geek On!

I love the internet. This is not news to anyone who knows me. I love computers; again, not really a surprise. I ogle desktop systems like other people might covet Lamborghinis (laptops too, but the relationship I have with them is more of a tug-of-war, in that I love the sleek designs but hate that touch pad thingy you’re supposed to pretend is a mouse. Ugh.) Unfortunately, just as I couldn’t tell you how to change the oil in a Lamborghini, or even find the oil cap in the first place, I…

Miss Portland

Now that we live in Indiana, I enjoy that being a member of this great site, I can keep in touch and visit the city I grew up in. Esp. The hawthorne distric. I lived at 35th SE Division st. Now a B&B. In the 40's I lived in St Johns. In the 70's, I had a paint/wallpaper store for a short time. I have lived all over the country including Hawaii but always returned to Portland. Now that I am 75, I wonder if I will be back. All my Children are around the Salem area.

In the winter of 1991-’92 my wife and I started discussing the idea of moving from the Dallas area.

That’s Dallas, Texas, y’all, in case I need to elucidate seeing as how there’s a Dallas, Oregon. Don’t confuse the two; Dallas, Oregon is a small town a little over 60 miles southwest of Portland, whereas Dallas, Texas is considerably larger and will be the capitol of a future post-apocalyptic petro-nation as soon as somebody green-lights the script.

Anyway. We each had lived in…

Bunkin' With You in the Afterlife is a cowgirl musical written by award-winning author, Jody Seay, and produced by BroadArts Theatre.  Full of rambunctous fun, this comedy musical play takes square aim at the sometimes touchy subject of religion and spirituality, as well as homosexuality, equality, and women's rights.See More
