Portland PET CHARITY makes final rounds of Rachel Ray - NEED YOUR VOTES!!!

Hey fine people & pet lovers of Portland!

I was going to post this in the Pet-friendly group, but figured it goes well beyond that grouping as it's a cause that affects Portlanders in general, not just pet lovers.

Project POOCH is only 2 rounds away from winning $50,000 in Rachael Ray's Mutt Madness but we need your help to make it to the finals.

Project Pooch have rescued hundreds of animals, and juvenile offenders, to help both go on to live happy lives. They have a real chance o… Continue

Portland Blog- This Week in Portland November 21 - 28

Ah, its only a few days away now: Thanksgiving! Here's hoping you have something fun planned and get a day or two to relax and enjoy the holiday with family and friends. I'm hoping for a nice bird, a relaxing day and some time at the dog park with my crazy hounds.

And now because it is suddenly so obviously winter (brrrr!), here are some Portland home winterizing tips:

Check your downspouts and drains to make sure water is draining properly. If necessary, clean your gutters.
Disconnect garden… Continue

Portland Blog - This Week in Portland - November 7-14, 2009

I can hardly believe we are at the end of the first week in November already...my, how time flies. I need to get out and put the "Moss Out" on the lawn. My white picket fence and arbor is already turning green, and my rose bushes need a winter trim. And I already forgot to plant flower bulbs for next spring, and now it is soggy and wet outside so I may not get to that at all this year. I was shopping in Fred Meyer on Halloween looking for a last minute costume and was horrified to discover Chris… Continue

Radical Women

Film Showing "Lakota Women: Siege at Wounded Knee"

You’re invited to join us for this film showing.

Lakota Women: Siege at Wounded Knee

This film depicts the radicalization of Mary Crow Dog after years of being denied her cultural heritage. As part of the American Indian Movement (AIM), she took an active role in the 1973 uprising of her tribe in South Dakota at the siege of Wounded Knee. Two thousand American Indians took a defiant stand against the U.S. Army, the F.B.I., and the reservation’s authorities to demand equal rights.
Film will be… Continue

The Black Press: Soldiers without Swords

Come to a film showing of:

"The Black Press: Soldiers without Swords"

This fascinating film chronicles the important role of Black community newspapers and their political and historic contribution to literacy under slavery, civil rights, and liberation struggles. Many of these papers were ahead of their times, too, for employing women as photographers, reporters and editors. Stick around for a post-video discussion on the role of radical journalists and news media today.

Saturday, Novembe… Continue
