"How did your trip make out?  For people who are looking at this in the future, I make the following suggestions. Day 1 Settle in to your hotel and get a feel for the city. Ride MAX and the street cars if you don't have a rental car, or…"

How to explore PDX in 5 days?

My wife and I are visiting Portland next week for 5 days to get to know the city and hopefully find a rental. Are there any tips or direction anyone can give me as to how to best see the city and cover the most ground when searching for a home? We are really hoping to find something more towards the inner portion of the city, so that would be our main area to explore, but we do want to see as much as we can. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!See More

"Thanks for your response. Basically everything you spoke of is what we are looking for in a rental. The problem that I'm finding is that these neighborhoods are extremely desirable and rentals are not only pretty to very expensive, but only…"

"What features are important to you in a neighborhood?  Some people say they want walking distance to coffee shops, others say they want to bike commute to Downtown, etc.  That will help hone it in. The closer to Downtown, the more…"

Officially Moving to Portland.

Had I found this site prior to a couple of days ago, I may have found enough information to sway my family and me elsewhere. However, our visit trip is booked, and the move is all but tattooed onto our knuckles. We arrive Wednesday, August 28th and will be staying through the 2nd of September; a Monday, to discover the city and find a home. From the "extensive" research I have done, I have targeted a few ideal neighborhoods. These neighborhoods seem to be the obvious targets of most native and…See More

Profile Information

Which Portland neighborhood do you call home? Or, are you Moving to Portland?
Moving from Virginia
About Me:
25, Musician by love, carpet installer by trade. I am relocating with my fiance, our two children of 1.5 and 7, and our Mother.
What do you love about Portland?
The potential to not only become, but exist as the people we so naturally feel we are meant to be. Also, the nature.
My music:
I enjoy listening to a wide variety of tunes from slavery era blues to 90's grunge to current "synth driven pop," influenced by the 70's and 80's. My personal work can be recognized as having such influences, however my latest project (which predictably lost its supporting cast prematurely) is a bit more condensed in terms of inspiration, however I am proud of it. A few songs can be heard at facebook.com/gorgeousyounglady. I was the songwriter/guitarist/vocalist.
What's your favorite Portland neighborhood and why?
Well, I think it's Hawthorne. I'm sure there are dozens of neighborhoods I have yet to discover through my research, but Hawthorne seems to fit the bill. Alberta seems even better, but perhaps a bit too pricey for my budget.
Favorite quote:
"The greatest tool at one's disposal is the mind. However misused and often wasted, it is the key to creation and therefore the key to life."
