Welcome to YOUR Portland Neighborhood Community

My daughter of 8 and I are moving to Portland next June and I have looked at the most popular neighborhoods, and the neighborhoods surrounding downtown are more inviting probably because I don't drive however my daughter is into dance so I prefer a school of the arts. I am self employed from home so that is no issue . Can someone advise me on the best places to live and rent also the best schools foe elementary. I am a single parent do I am looking for affordability .

Hi Faliscia, I too will be moving to Portland this year, but not until the Fall. Since you're a bit ahead of me, I'm wondering if you might have any advice?  Did you find what you were looking for? And, if so, what resources did you find most helpful in your search?

We have TriMet, so even if you don't drive you can consider neighborhoods along the train and bus lines.  That will allow you to get a little further out from central/Downtown (where prices are indeed higher than further out).  Here are TriMet maps: http://trimet.org/schedules/index.htm

Here is an article on music and arts programs in Portland schools: http://www.nwkidsmagazine.com/2015/12/music-and-arts-programs-in-po...

Also PDXMETROARTS art outreach programs: http://www.pdxmetroarts.org/outreach.html

And here is a link to Portland Public Schools programs:

Here are some local art opportunities for kids:

Good luck!

Hi Faliscia!

I saw your message a little late and would love to know where you chose to live. I would really appreciate your comments as I run a Portland moving company and always look for feedback to give our incoming families. I hope you and your daughter are doing well!

Hello Faliscia,

The first question is "what is your budget?" That is going to narrow your choices drastically. Richmond, Boise, Sunnyside, Mt. Tabor are all great areas. But not helpful if you can only afford to live in Centennial.
